REUTERS   <\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>Apple on Monday asked a US judge for a preliminary injunction barring two former employees \u200band OpenAI from accessing, acquiring, using or disclosing alleged confidential information as \u200cit moves ahead with its trade secrets case.<\/p>\n<p>Apple last month sued OpenAI and the two former employees, both now working for OpenAI,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/litigation\/apple-sues-openai-alleging-misappropriation-trade-secrets-court-records-show-2026-07-10\/\">alleging misappropriation<\/a>\u00a0of its trade secrets to benefit the ChatGPT-owner&#8217;s \u200bforay into consumer hardware, a dramatic escalation of already simmering tension between \u200bthe two companies.<\/p>\n<p>The iPhone maker also filed a concurrent motion on Monday \u2060seeking expedited discovery, including production of documents relating to the defendants&#8217; alleged access \u200bof Apple&#8217;s proprietary and trade secret information.<\/p>\n<p>It asked the judge to order the two \u200bformer Apple employees named in the lawsuit, Chang Liu and Tang Yew Tan, to sit for depositions, along with OpenAI employee Yu-Ting Peng and an unnamed OpenAI employee who previously worked at \u200bApple.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read More:<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2621839\/alibaba-unveils-its-largest-ai-model-yet-deepseeks-latest-model-is-ultra-low-cost\">Alibaba unveils its largest AI model yet, DeepSeek&#8217;s latest model is ultra-low cost<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Liu is a former Apple senior system electrical engineer while Tan is Apple&#8217;s \u200bformer vice president of product design for iPhone and Apple Watch.<\/p>\n<p>Apple also sought depositions from corporate \u200crepresentatives \u2060of OpenAI and io Products, which is OpenAI&#8217;s commercial arm and is listed as a defendant in the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Apple will be irreparably harmed absent a preliminary injunction,&#8221; it said in a filing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Apple\u2019s request for a preliminary injunction is both based on \u200bfalse information and completely \u200bunnecessary because we \u2060do not have, nor want, any of their trade secrets,&#8221; OpenAI said in a blogpost late on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Apple&#8217;s lawsuit, filed in \u200bthe US District Court for the Northern District of California, \u200bcomes after \u2060OpenAI successfully\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/litigation\/openai-wins-dismissal-trade-secret-lawsuit-by-musks-xai-2026-06-15\/\">fended off<\/a>\u00a0a legal challenge from Elon Musk&#8217;s xAI.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit sets up a battle over the control of future AI devices that may not use traditional apps or \u2060operating \u200bsystems \u2014 devices which, if successful, would direct consumer \u200battention away from Apple&#8217;s best-selling iPhone.
