Pakistan will be desperately looking to level the series when they face West Indies in their second and final Test of the two-match Test series which will begin on Sunday (today) at the Queen’s Park Oval.<\/p>\n

The hosts claimed a convincing 90-run victory in the first Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy where a five-wicket haul from Jayden Seales and a crucial lower-order contribution from Shamar Joseph helped secure a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.<\/p>\n

The result continued West Indies’ impressive home form under captain Roston Chase, who believes his side is beginning to establish the Caribbean as one of the toughest places for touring teams.<\/p>\n

“We’re very blessed and very happy for the results that we’ve been having at home so far,” Chase said ahead of the second Test.<\/p>\n

“But I want to make home our fortress, where we make it very difficult for teams to come to the Caribbean and beat us,\u201d said the skipper.<\/p>\n

“Because it’s our own conditions, we know them inside out and better than the oppositions. We want to really make home advantage count and we have been doing that well so far.”<\/p>\n

West Indies have enjoyed a remarkable turnaround in recent weeks after enduring a difficult previous Test campaign on a winning note against Sri Lanka. Since the start of the home season, they have defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs, drawn the second Test of that series\u00a0 and defeated Pakistan in the opening Test.<\/p>\n

Another victory would lift the Caribbean side above England into seventh place in the ICC World Test Championship standings, despite already being out of contention for a place in the final.<\/p>\n

Chase believes the team’s recent success reflects months of planning.<\/p>\n

“After having the year last year, we sat down with the plan and said that this is where we want to be,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We are exactly where we want to be,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

“We want to come into this second Test, not take anything for granted, just go through the processes that we have sit down and talked about. We want to execute them to the best of our ability and look to get that second victory.”<\/p>\n

Pakistan, meanwhile, will be looking for a significant improvement after another batting collapse cost them the opening Test.<\/p>\n

Set to chase 211, Pakistan were folded for just 120, with captain Babar Azam carrying his bat for an unbeaten fifty while receiving little support from the rest of the batting line-up.<\/p>\n

Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmad admitted Pakistan had allowed the match to slip away late on the third day, particularly through the resistance of the West Indies’ lower order.<\/p>\n

“Both teams played really good cricket for the first three days and in the last session of the day, Shamar Joseph, the way he batted, took the game away from us,” Sarfaraz said.<\/p>\n

The former Pakistan captain also praised the home side’s pace-battery after Seales, Kemar Roach and Justin Greaves dismantled Pakistan’s batting in the fourth innings.<\/p>\n

“Credit goes to their pacers as well, they bowled well,” he added.<\/p>\n

Despite poor start to the campaign Sarfaraz was confident, saying Pakistan can level the series.<\/p>\n

“I am a bit disappointed with our batsmen. However, I am hopeful they will bounce back in the next game.\u201d<\/p>\n

“We have identified the problems we faced in the fourth innings and have shared a few things with our batsmen. We will bounce back.”<\/p>\n

With the West Indies eyeing a first home Test series win over Pakistan in several years and Pakistan desperate to avoid another overseas defeat, the final Test promises to be a crucial contest for both sides which are desperately trying to finish their ICC World Test Championship campaign with a grace.<\/p>\n
