ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi has called for the creation of new administrative units<\/a>, saying Pakistan\u2019s existing governance system has failed and requires structural reforms to address the country\u2019s longstanding challenges.<\/p>\n

Speaking at Pakistan\u2019s first Economic Summit in Islamabad, Naqvi said the current administrative system \u201chas collapsed\u201d and argued that meaningful progress would not be possible without fundamental institutional changes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to move toward new administrative units or provinces, whatever name they are given,\u201d Naqvi said, adding that the issue should ultimately be taken to the public for a decision.<\/p>\n

He stressed that all stakeholders must work together to implement reforms, warning that the country would continue facing the same problems without structural changes.<\/p>\n

The interior minister also highlighted economic challenges, saying Pakistan continues to rely on borrowing while public debt keeps rising.<\/p>\n

He said the country\u2019s system needs a \u201creset\u201d to achieve sustainable improvement and warned that delaying reforms would only deepen existing problems.<\/p>\n

Referring to the country\u2019s youth, Naqvi said young people are demanding merit-based employment opportunities and cautioned that their collective frustration could have significant consequences.<\/p>\n

He also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for working long hours but said even extended efforts by the premier amount to \u201cfirefighting\u201d unless broader systemic reforms are introduced.<\/p>\n
