RAWALPINDI: Fifteen people, including 12 military personnel, two policemen and a government official, were martyred after militants attacked a joint police check post in Tank district, while security forces killed 12 assailants during the ensuing operation.<\/p>\n

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations<\/a> (ISPR), the attack took place on the night of July 23-24, when Khwarij belonging to Indian-sponsored, Fitna Al Khwarij attempted to breach the security of the joint check post. Security forces responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and killing 12 militants as they attempted to flee.<\/p>\n

The ISPR said the attackers later rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post.<\/p>\n

The powerful blast caused extensive damage to the facility and resulted in the martyrdom of 12 military personnel, two police officers, and one government official from the Forest Department.<\/p>\n

The military said a sanitization operation is underway to clear the area of any remaining militants. It added that security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue counterterrorism operations under the \u201cAzm-e-Istehkam\u201d campaign, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.<\/p>\n

The ISPR reiterated the country\u2019s resolve to eliminate militancy, saying the sacrifices of the fallen personnel reinforce Pakistan\u2019s commitment to safeguarding national security and eradicating foreign-sponsored terrorism.<\/p>\n
