Boeing\u00a0said on Sunday it remains on track to deliver two new Air Force One \u200bjets in 2028, but meeting that target will \u200crequire additional spending on a program already years behind schedule and billions of dollars over budget.<\/p>\n
Boeing was awarded a $3.9 billion contract in \u200b2018 to build the aircraft, though costs have \u200bsince ballooned to more than $5 billion. The aircraft are \u2060intended to replace the current Air Force One planes, \u200bwhich entered service in 1990.<\/p>\n
“We’re on track for 2028,” Steve \u200bParker, CEO of Defense, Space & Security, told reporters ahead of the Farnborough Airshow in the UK, adding that he expected the first \u200baircraft to begin testing next year.<\/p>\n

Security concerns led\u00a0President Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0to \u200bforgo flying the Qatari jet home from Turkey, \u200bopting \u2060instead to\u00a0return aboard<\/a>\u00a0an older Air Force One.<\/p>\n The Air Force One program involves converting two Boeing 747-8 aircraft into highly \u2060specialized \u200bjets equipped with advanced communications and \u200bdefensive systems.
