The Duchess of Kent left more than \u00a31.4million in her will, documents show.<\/p>\n

Katharine, the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, and a cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>, left most of her estate to her family after her death at age 92.<\/p>\n

Following her death in September last year, Prince William and Princess Kate paid tribute to the Duchess, who was the oldest living member of the British royal family at the time.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the Prince and Princess of Wales said their thoughts were with the Duke of Kent and his family, especially George, Helen and Nicholas. They praised the Duchess for her lifelong dedication to helping others and supporting many charitable causes, particularly through her love of music, adding that she would be greatly missed by the family.<\/p>\n

According to probate documents reported by Mail Online, Katharine left an estate worth \u00a31,433,696, which was later adjusted to \u00a31,433,206. Most of her estate was left to her three children: George Windsor, 64, Lady Helen Taylor, 62, and Lord Nicholas Windsor, 55.<\/p>\n

She also donated \u00a310,000 to Future Talent Musicians<\/a>, a charity she co-founded in 2004 to support talented young musicians from low-income families.<\/p>\n

Each of her nine godchildren received \u00a35,000, while her personal belongings were left to her husband, the Duke of Kent.<\/p>\n

The Duchess died peacefully at Wren Cottage in Kensington Palace, West London, surrounded by her family.<\/p>\n

In recent years, she rarely appeared at official royal events after stepping back from public duties more than 20 years ago.<\/p>\n

She was widely remembered for comforting Czech tennis player Jana Novotna with a hug after her defeat in the 1993 Wimbledon final, a moment that became one of the most memorable displays of compassion by a member of the royal family.<\/p>\n

Katharine grew up at Hovingham Hall in North Yorkshire, the ancestral home of her father, Sir William Worsley.<\/p>\n

She met Prince Edward at a ball in 1957 while he was serving in the British Army.<\/a><\/p>\n

The couple became engaged before marrying at York Minster on June 8, 1961. It was the first royal wedding held there in more than 600 years. Guests included Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen Mother, Prince Philip, a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne, who served as a flower girl.<\/p>\n

In 1971, Katharine became patron of the Samaritans and later volunteered for the charity without seeking publicity. She completed training and answered calls every Wednesday.<\/p>\n

She later said the experience taught her a great deal about life and helped her better understand people facing loneliness and suicidal thoughts.<\/p>\n

The Duchess also became the first member of the British royal family<\/a> since 1685 to convert to Catholicism. She converted in 1994 and later said she appreciated the guidance the Catholic Church provided in her life.<\/p>\n

At age 20, Katharine began working as a teacher but left the job after a year to care for her mother, who had arthritis.<\/p>\n

Following the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, which claimed 72 lives, she returned to teaching at age 84. She quietly taught music at Holland Park Primary School, where many students had been affected by the tragedy.<\/p>\n

The Duchess once said teaching was deeply rewarding and described it as one of the most exciting and meaningful professions anyone could have.<\/p>\n
