Lahore Traffic Police has decided to introduce QR panic buttons, dashboard cameras and GPS tracking systems in online ride-hailing vehicles in phases to enhance passenger safety, particularly for women.<\/p>\n
The decision was taken during a meeting between Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore SyedAbdul Rahim Shirazi and representatives of online taxi companies.<\/p>\n
The participants agreed to make modern safety features mandatory for ride-hailing services operating in the provincial capital.<\/p>\n
Under the proposed plan, ride-hailing companies will be required to equip their vehicles with QR panic buttons, dashcams and GPS trackers within a stipulated timeframe.<\/p>\n
Traffic police officials said action would be taken against vehicles that fail to comply with the new requirements.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the meeting, CTO Shirazi said the use of advanced tracking systems and camera technology would improve monitoring, strengthen passenger and driver security, and assist authorities in investigating accidents and other incidents.<\/p>\n
He said Lahore Traffic Police would provide full support to ride-hailing companies in the installation of the Punjab government’s QR panic button system, aimed at improving emergency response and enhancing the safety of commuters.<\/p>\n
Officials said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to leverage technology to improve public safety and modernise urban transport services.<\/p>\n
