LAHORE \u2013 Air quality in Lahore has reached a \u201cvery unhealthy\u201d level as the city has been ranked second most polluted city in the world after Bangladesh capital of Dhaka.<\/p>\n

The city has recorded a US AQI of 264, which is classified as very unhealthy, in morning, according to the IQAir.<\/p>\n

The main pollutant is PM10, with concentrations measured at 399.9 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3.<\/p>\n

Authorities and health experts are urging residents to take precautions. Recommendations include avoiding outdoor exercise, keeping windows closed to reduce exposure to dirty air, and wearing protective masks when outside.<\/p>\n

The current conditions pose serious health risks, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions.<\/p>\n

Air pollution in Lahore results from multiple sources, including emissions from vehicles and industries, smoke from brick kilns, the burning of agricultural waste, and general trash.<\/p>\n

Dust from construction activities also contributes, while the widespread removal of trees to make way for new roads and buildings further worsens air quality.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Department of Environmental Protection has been actively combating smog and air pollution for several months.<\/p>\n

Strict actions are being taken against violators of environmental laws as part of this campaign.<\/p>\n
