ISLAMABAD \u2013 Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the Senate on Tuesday that the eye procedure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan could have been carried out at Adiala Jail Hospital but he was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) at Khan\u2019s own request.<\/p>\n

Participating in the debate, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas alleged that Imran Khan\u2019s family had not been informed about his medical condition, calling it a violation of his rights as both a citizen and a prisoner. He questioned why Khan had been deprived of access to doctors of his choice and warned that his eyesight could be at risk if proper care was not ensured.<\/p>\n

Senator Ali Zafar also expressed concerns over the medical report issued by PIMS, stating that it had not satisfied independent medical experts. He demanded that two specialists be granted access to examine Imran Khan and urged the Senate to direct the hospital to release the medical report for public disclosure.<\/p>\n

Responding to the concerns, Law Minister Tarar assured the House that Imran Khan\u2019s health was stable and that the procedure had been successful. He clarified that the eye condition required an injection rather than surgery and that no further complications had been reported.<\/p>\n

The minister reiterated that treatment could have been provided at Adiala Jail Hospital, but Imran Khan had requested to be taken to PIMS, citing potential law and order concerns and asking to be transported in the evening.<\/p>\n

Referring to a past case, Tarar recalled that when Rana Sanaullah was arrested while on his way to a hospital in Lahore, a magistrate had remanded him into judicial custody and, on the directions of the then prime minister, he was not allowed access to a jail doctor. He said that the current prime minister had issued no such restrictions in Imran Khan\u2019s case and remained committed to upholding human rights.<\/p>\n
