LAHORE \u2013 Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reacting to the decision of the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding suspension of suspension of the Punjab Protection of Ownership Law 2025, saying that the law suspension would benefit land grabbers, and the public might perceive it as support for these mafias.<\/p>\n

The CM emphasized that the law aimed to resolve long-standing property disputes within 90 days.<\/p>\n

CM Maryam said, \u201cThis law was introduced to help millions of residents of Punjab who have suffered from property disputes for years and even generations. The elected assembly enacted it to protect citizens from powerful land mafias, giving them legal control over their property for the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cThe court\u2019s ruling does not align with established principles of the higher judiciary. Suspending the law will benefit land grabbers, and the public may perceive it as support for these mafias.\u201d<\/p>\n

The CM also noted that property disputes often remain pending for decades under stay orders. \u201cThe suspension of this law does not affect me personally.<\/p>\n

The lawmaking is the constitutional right of the provincial assembly and cannot be obstructed. The real victims of this suspension will be the poor, destitute, widows, and other vulnerable citizens who were seeking justice under this law,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
