- Imad Wasim’s daughter took her father’s POTM award.
- Imad took 3 wickets for just 12 runs in 4 overs.
- United will face Sultans in the final.
In a heartwarming event, the daughter of Imad Wasim accepted her father’s Player of the Match award following Islamabad United’s victory over Quetta Gladiators in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) Eliminator on Friday in Karachi.
Imad earned the award after achieving remarkable figures of 3-12 in four overs. Saud Shakeel, Rilee Rossouw, and Khawaja Nafay were among those dismissed by Imad’s bowling.
“I think what we saw in the last few games, it was spinning, holding a bit, the thing I did well was to bowl really slow, it was gripping and it went well,” Imad commented at the post-match ceremony.
“I tried to bowl more slow balls than arm balls and mixed it up…worked for me…we restricted them and took wickets which is the best thing, if you do one of these right, you will win because powerplay is very important,” he further added.
It’s worth noting that Islamabad United triumphed over Quetta Gladiators by a margin of 39 runs. This victory paved the way for United to progress to the second Eliminator, where they will face Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi tomorrow at the same location.
The Gladiators faltered during their chase of 175 runs, falling short by 39 runs. Islamabad’s bowlers dominated the game from the outset, preventing the chasing side from making a comeback.
In their pursuit of the target, Quetta encountered several setbacks early in their innings, losing five wickets for a mere 16 runs in the first five overs.
Imad claimed three wickets, Naseem took two, while Obey McCoy, Hunain Shah, and Faheem Ashraf each took one.
Despite a slow start to their innings, Islamabad soon found their rhythm and began hitting boundaries.
Martin Guptill was the top scorer for the two-time PSL champions, scoring 56 off 47 balls, including six boundaries. He was followed by Salman Ali Agha, who added 31 runs off 21 balls.
