- Pakistan’s cricket team faces criticism.
- USA qualifies for Super 8 stage.
- Akram jokes about Pakistan’s early departure.
The Pakistan cricket squad is under intense scrutiny from supporters and past cricketers due to their substandard performance in the current T20 World Cup, resulting in their exit from the event.
The Green Shirts couldn’t advance to the Super Eight stage after being defeated in their first two matches by the United States and India.
With the USA-Ireland match called off because of rain on Friday, the co-hosts earned a point, thereby quashing Pakistan’s chances of moving forward in the tournament.
After Pakistan’s disqualification, the International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a video on Instagram featuring Tanvi Shah and cricket legend Wasim Akram.
In their discussion, Shah remarks that this is the third occasion Pakistan has been eliminated in the opening round of the T20 World Cup.
Wasim initially extends his congratulations to the tournament’s co-hosts for making it to the Super Eight and comments on Pakistan’s exit.
“Congratulations to team USA; they’ve done amazingly well. When you talk about globalisation of the game, this is it USA qualifying for the Super Eights. They deserve to be there. They’ve beaten Pakistan in the round match so they’re there,” Wasim stated.
He then humorously jibes at Pakistan, saying: “For Pakistan, what’s the plan? EK-601 to Dubai and then to the respective cities. We’ll see what happens next from there onwards.”
Pakistan’s concluding group match against Ireland on Sunday (June 16) will be inconsequential before the team departs for home.
