KARACHI – A 17-year-old boy lost his life while attempting to rescue a four-year-old child who fell into an open drain near Sohrab Goth on Tuesday, while the child remains missing despite an ongoing search operation.
The incident occurred near Noor Islam Mosque in the Machhar Colony area within the jurisdiction of Sohrab Goth Police Station. According to police, four-year-old Shavez, son of Javed, was riding his bicycle when he accidentally fell into the open drain along with the bicycle.
A passer-by immediately jumped into the drain in an attempt to save the child but was also swept away by the strong flow of water. The teenager was later identified as 17-year-old Gulab, son of Manzoor.
His body was recovered by rescue teams and shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.
Station House Officer (SHO) Gul Baig Panjero said the rescue attempt turned tragic when the young passer-by drowned while trying to save the child.
According to a spokesperson for Rescue 1122 Sindh, the Central Command and Control Centre dispatched a water rescue vehicle, divers, and ambulances immediately after receiving the emergency call.
Rescue personnel recovered the body of the teenager, while efforts to locate the missing child are still underway.
