Suniel Shetty recently revealed a shocking incident he faced in the United States after the 9/11 attacks. While shooting his film “Kaante” in Los Angeles, he encountered a terrifying situation where police held him at gunpoint due to a misunderstanding about his appearance.
Suniel Shetty and his film crew reached Los Angeles just before the World Trade Center attack. While staying in a hotel, he watched the shocking footage of planes striking the towers. In an interview, Shetty described the moment as almost unbelievable, admitting he struggled to process what he was seeing.
A few days later, Shetty faced a shocking encounter with the police. After forgetting his hotel room keys, he approached a man in the lobby for help. When Shetty made a simple gesture to request the keys, the man misunderstood his action and caused an uproar. Shortly after, the police arrived with their guns drawn.
The officers, suspecting Shetty as a potential threat, ordered him to kneel and handcuffed him, warning, “Down, or we shoot.” Overwhelmed with shock, Shetty struggled to comprehend the situation. He recalled, “I didn’t know what was happening. I had to go down on my knees. They handcuffed me.” His appearance, especially his beard, made him a target in the heightened security environment following 9/11. He explained that the misunderstanding arose solely because of his look at the time.
Fortunately, some production team members intervened, and a Pakistani hotel manager clarified that Shetty was a well-known actor. As a result, the situation de-escalated, though Shetty described the experience as terrifying. In the tense atmosphere following the attacks, he remained uncertain about what would happen next.
Shetty concluded by describing the incident as both terrifying and surreal. He explained that simple gestures led to a misunderstandings, which escalated into intense confrontations due to the prevailing fear and uncertainty of that time.
