Provincial Minister for Law Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth visited the Central Police Office (CPO) on Thursday as the chief guest at a ceremony held in honour of the families of police martyrs.
During the event, he handed over house keys to the families of seven police martyrs and distributed financial assistance cheques to the families of 11 martyrs who laid down their lives before 2017, to support the construction of their homes.
The minister also awarded foreign scholarship cheques worth Rs.3.5 million each to two outstanding children of police martyrs for their higher education in the United Kingdom.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr.Usman Anwar, briefed the minister on the welfare initiatives being implemented for the families and children of police martyrs.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, the families and children of police martyrs are being provided with plots, housing, medical care and access to quality higher education.
The provincial minister for Law emphasised that police martyrs—who bravely laid down their lives for the safety of citizens—hold a special place in the heart of the chief minister Punjab.
In line with the CM’s directives, “Package III” for police martyrs is being further enhanced.
“No material possession can ever fully compensate for the ultimate sacrifice made by these heroes,” said the minister.
He also commended the IGP and his team for their exceptional efforts in supporting the welfare of police personnel, martyrs and their families.
The minister highlighted that today’s safer and more secure Punjab is a result of the sacrifices made by 1,683 police martyrs and 2,163 Ghazis.
He directed officials to expedite the house purchase process for the families of martyrs.
He further noted that under the Shuhada Package, the amount allocated for house purchases has been increased significantly, by Rs.5.4 million per family.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, children of police martyrs are being provided with free education in top educational institutions, along with foreign scholarships and laptops.
Additionally, 712 families of martyrs who embraced martyrdom before 2017 have been allotted plots.
To support the construction of houses on these plots, eligible families are also being provided Rs.2.5 million per household.
