In the course of the investigation, Mumbai Police arrested a man identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad earlier in the day. During a press conference, police officials revealed that Shehzad, a Bangladesh national, had changed his name to Vijay Das after illegally entering India. The police also stated that the 30-year-old entered Saif’s house intending to commit a robbery.
DCP Zone 9 Dixit Gedam said, “He was using Vijay Das as his current name. He came to Mumbai 5–6 months ago. He stayed in Mumbai for a few days and then in the vicinity of Mumbai. The accused used to work in a housekeeping agency,” he added.
Following the arrest, the police presented him in Bandra court, where the court sent him to 5-day police custody.
