KARACHI – The Sindh government is moving to expand public transport services across the province, with new Peoples Bus Service routes expected to become operational soon as part of efforts to provide citizens with safer, more reliable and modern travel options.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Sindh Transport Department chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting reviewed several major public transport initiatives, including the expansion of the Peoples Bus Service, double-decker buses, electric vehicle (EV) taxis, Pink Scooties and ongoing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects.
Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, TransKarachi CEO Zubair Channa, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Behzad Memon and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Officials briefed the senior minister on the current operations of the Peoples Bus Service and plans to extend its network to more cities across Sindh.
The meeting was informed that the Qambar Shahdadkot-Larkana route would soon become operational, with buses already reaching Larkana. Authorities are also finalizing arrangements for the arrival and operation of double-decker buses.
The proposed EV taxi service was another key focus of the meeting. Officials discussed its operational model and preparations required before the service is launched. Memon directed the relevant departments to complete arrangements for new bus routes without unnecessary delays.
The senior minister said expanding the Peoples Bus Service would help improve daily commuting facilities for people across the province.
He also announced that Pink Scooties would be distributed among women in Mirpurkhas on September 5, describing the initiative as a major step towards women’s empowerment. The programme is intended to make it easier for women to travel to workplaces, educational institutions and other essential destinations.
Memon also ordered officials to speed up work on BRT projects and maintain coordination among all concerned institutions to avoid delays.
He said the Sindh government was working to develop a modern, safe and environmentally friendly public transport system. The expansion of the Peoples Bus Service, promotion of electric mobility and development of BRT corridors, he added, were all part of the province’s broader transport strategy.
