SHC rejects JI’s plea against loadshedding in Karachi – Pakistan Observer

KARACHI – The Sindh High Court has dismissed the petition filed by Jamaat-e-Islami chief, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, against load-shedding in Karachi due to line losses, declaring it inadmissible.

The court ruled that the matter could not be heard under the current legal framework.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel argued that load-shedding based on line losses is illegal and that the prolonged power outages in Karachi are severely affecting daily life. However, the court rejected the plea, directing the matter to be referred to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for further action.

The court emphasized that, in line with the Supreme Court’s directives, the issue of load-shedding cannot be entertained at this level. Furthermore, under Section 39 of the NEPRA Act, the petitioner has the option to address the matter directly with NEPRA.

The court also instructed NEPRA to resolve the complaint within one month and submit a report to MIT-2.
