Reception marks ‘Glorious National Day’ of Oman’ – Pakistan Observer

Hanif Abbasi seeks Oman’s cooperation in uplift of railway, infrastructure

Ambassador of Oman, Fahad bin Sulaiman bin Khalaf Al Kharusi hosted on Friday a reception to celebrate the ‘Glorious National Day of the Sultanate of Oman’ at Serena Hotel. Organized in ‘colours of Oman’ and with traditional hospitality of Sultanate is famous for, the event reflected bilateral ties between Pakistan and Oman based on sincerity, friendship and mutual respect. National anthems of Pakistan and Oman were played and a cake was also cut on the occasion.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi was the Chief Guest on the occasion while among the noted guests included Federal Minister for Education & Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Members of the Parliament, diplomats from the Arab and the African countries and friends of Oman.

Minister Hanif Abbasi on behalf of the government and the people of Pakistan, conveyed heartiest congratulations to the leadership and people of Oman emphasizing strong and lasting bond of friendship between Oman and Pakistan.

“We are here to celebrate the achievements of Oman and strong friendship between Pakistan and Oman,” said Abbasi wishing the Omani people and the leadership peace, prosperity and success. Pakistan and Oman he said shared a long history, culture and close ties. Our frontiers are connected through the Arabian Sea including Trade, travel and shared heritage, said Abbasi.

He particularly mentioned the Pakistani diaspora living in Oman. They are contributing to Oman’s development. While Oman is a second home to them, this people-to-people connection is at the heart of friendship. Oman is known not only for its culture and history but also for its beautiful landscape and landmarks—from the Majestic Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat to Nizwa Fort, Bahla Fort and the World Heritage site, he noted.

As the railway minister, I want to highlight the opportunities for greater connectivity and trade between our countries. Pakistan is improving its railways and we welcome Omani investment in infrastructure, logistics and industrial projects which can help both our economic growth.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Ambassador of Oman Fahad bin Sulaiman bin Khalaf Al Kharusi said the National Day of Oman embodied the celebration of the country’s rich history dating back to the founding of the Al Bu Said State on November 20, 1744 when the founder Imam Ahmad bin Said Al-Busaidi unified the nation and laid the foundations of the modern Omani state based on sovereignty, unity and dignity.

This occasion is also an opportunity to honour the Sultans of Oman who have faithfully shouldered their responsibility across generation, preserving the country’s unity and prosperity while strengthening its civilizational and humanitarian presence regionally and internationally, the envoy said. “The Sultanate of Oman reaffirms its unwavering position in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with international legitimacy,” he said.

On bilateral relations with Pakistan, the Oman envoy stated that Oman and Pakistan had long-standing strategic and cultural relations built on solid foundations of religious and culture values of Brothehood.

This relation is also characterized by geographic proximity and strengthened by mutual understanding and common comprehensive vision on various regional and international issues.

We look forward to further enhancing cooperation with Pakistan in trade, investment, people-to-people exchanges and we are confident that the coming years will bring even greater collaboration and new opportunities that contribute to the prosperity and wellbeing of the two nations, he said.

Since the dawn of renaissance in 1970 established by the His Late Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and proudly contributed by the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, a great many achievements have been realized by the Sultanate of Oman, the ambassador said adding His Majesty’s renewed vision strikes a balance between authenticity and modernity paving the way for a future of greater prosperity and sustainability. Under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham, Oman continues its ambitious journey toward realizing Oman Vision 2040, which embodies the nation’s aspiration to build a diversified economy, a prosperous society and modern effective institutions.

The ambassador said the year 2025 witnessed significant milestones in economic and financial modernization and promoting social affairs. Oman’s Foreign Policy is established on the principle of neutrality, balance, dialogue and respect for the Charter of the United Nations and international law, he said.
