A sudden spike in the number of dengue patients around Pakistan’s major city has left the health authorities in a stressful situation. The overall graph of dengue cases has reached 374 after 32 new cases reported on Sunday.
It is to be noted that, a large number of dengue patients were reported in Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital.
Around 237 patients were admitted to these hospitals on Sunday. Among them, 32 tested positive for dengue fever, with 20 dengue patients landing in the Holy Family Hospital, 34 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital and 14 at the District Headquarters Hospital.
The patients in these hospitals came from 70 union councils of the city and 20 wards of Rawalpindi and the Chaklala Cantonment Board.
One of the senior doctors at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital, while describing this alarming situation, added that, “The hospital currently had 334 patients admitted and could accommodate over 400 at a time. Six dengue patients were discharged on Sunday after receiving treatment.
Whereas, the doctors has also asked people to remain cautious as the number of cases might likely to drop in the coming month, though the current period remains critical.
As per one of the senior officials of the district administration, “The District administration, led by the Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, is working day and night to clear the city and cantonment from the dengue virus.”
He mentioned that a third party audit conducted by the Agriculture and Local Government department is ongoing to evaluate the effectiveness of the anti-dengue measures and the performance of the sanitary patrols.
It is to be hereby added that, Chak Jaladin and Kotha Kalan union councils have been designated as the sensitive regions because of the high number of cases. Whereas, most of the patients have been reported from Gulistan Colony, Morgah, Airport Housing Society and New Afzal Town near Gulraiz.
In order for addressing the outbreak, case response activities are scheduled for 12 Rabiul Awal. Whereas, it has been decided that no anti-dengue activities will be conducted along the routes of Eid Milad processions in the city and the cantonment areas.
