LAHORE:
Operations on the Lahore-Faisalabad railway section were suspended on Monday after a railway bridge near Qila Sattar Shah was damaged by heavy rains and flooding, prompting authorities to divert the routes of several trains and temporarily cancel some others.
According to railway officials, severe rainfall and flooding between Qila Sheikhupura and Massan damaged railway infrastructure, leading the authorities to suspend train services on the Lahore-Faisalabad section as a precautionary measure until the affected infrastructure is restored.
The Divisional Transport Officer of Pakistan Railways’ Lahore Division said the 41-Up/42-Down Karakoram Express and the 27-Up/28-Down Shalimar Express would operate from Lahore to their destinations via Raiwind, Sahiwal and Khanewal, instead of the Faisalabad route.
Passengers travelling on the 42-Down Karakoram Express from Faisalabad will be accommodated on the 18-Down Millat Express, while the Mianwali Express, which operates between Lahore and Sargodha, will run via Wazirabad and Lala Musa.
Meanwhile, the 111-Up/112-Down Badr Express and the 113-Up/114-Down Ghauri Express have been temporarily cancelled. Railway authorities said repair work on the damaged bridge and track was under way and normal train operations would resume after the infrastructure was fully restored.
The Railways officials have advised passengers to check the latest status of their trains before travelling, saying that the situation was being continuously monitored and the public would be informed about further developments.
