QUETTA: A local court in Quetta acquitted Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) leaders arrested in connection with May 9 incidents on Wednesday. According to the social media cell of the PTI, a judicial magistrate’s court acquitted the party’s information secretary, Nazeer Jan Achakzai, Faisal Bari Achakzai, Haji Salahuddin Achakzai and others.
Police had arrested the PTI leaders for blocking main Quetta-Chaman highway against the arrest of the former prime minister on the eve of May 9th. Police had charged them for inciting violence and creating obstacles for masses by blocking the national highway.
Senior lawyer, Najeebullah Kakar appeared before the court on behalf of PTI leaders. The acquitted PTI leaders belong to the Chaman district of Balochistan. A large number of PTI supporters were present outside the court when the judgement was announced.
The party welcomed the court’s judgment and termed it a victory for the main opposition party in the country.
