Punjab CM Maryam breaks fast with prisoners in Kot Lakhpat Jail
LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz paid a visit to Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore on Sunday, where she broke fast with prisoners.
Rather than merely attending as a guest, the Punjab Chief Minister chose to show solidarity with the prisoners by breaking fast alongside them during Iftar, while also offering them gifts, clothing, and financial assistance totaling Rs15,000.
A video posted by Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb depicted CM Maryam Nawaz distributing samosas, pakoras, fruits, and meals to the female prisoners. Additionally, she toured various sections of the jail and planted a tree in the jail’s lawns.
During her visit, Maryam Nawaz also took the opportunity to visit the cell where her father, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was detained during his imprisonment. Reflecting on those challenging times spent behind bars, she became emotional.
In addition to interacting with prison officials, Maryam engaged with the inmates, inquiring about their concerns and issues.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister inaugurated a 20-bed hospital within the Central Jail aimed at rehabilitating drug addicts. She also inaugurated a video call facility for prisoners, marking a pioneering initiative in the jail system.
Maryam Nawaz inspected the jail kitchen and assessed the quality of food being prepared for the inmates.
Former Senator Pervez Rasheed, Provincial Minister for Information & Culture Azma Bokari, Chief Secretary, Secretary Home, Special Secretary Home, IG Prisons Farooq Nazir, and other officials accompanied CM Maryam on her visit.
