Alexandra Hartley, the spin-bowling coach for Multan Sultans, expressed her joy after Usama Mir made history in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Tuesday during a match against Quetta Gladiators.
Usama, a leg-spinner, has carved his name into the PSL record books by becoming the spin bowler with the most wickets in a single edition after he dismissed Mohammad Wasim Jr.
With his exceptional performance in PSL 9, Usama has taken an impressive 21 wickets so far, breaking the previous record set by Rashid Khan, who took 20 wickets in the previous season while playing for Lahore Qalandars.
Hartley praised Usama as a “superstar” on X, previously known as Twitter.
On the other hand, prominent bowlers like Hasan Ali, Abbas Afridi, and Ehsanullah have made their mark with notable wicket-taking performances in past seasons.
Hasan’s tally of 25 wickets in 2019 is the highest, followed by Afridi’s 23 and Ehsanullah’s 22 in 2023.
Interestingly, the list of top wicket-takers consists solely of fast bowlers, with Faheem Ashraf in fourth place, having taken 21 wickets in the 2019 edition.
It’s important to note that the playoff schedule for PSL 9 has been confirmed. The Sultans will now face Peshawar Zalmi in Qualifier 1 on March 14, while the Gladiators will compete against Islamabad United in the Eliminator on March 15.
The Sultans and Zalmi have two opportunities to qualify for the PSL 9 final after finishing in the top two positions on the points table, as the loser of Qualifier 1 will play against the winner of the Eliminator on March 16.
