PPP-designated Syed Awais Shah becomes SA Speaker

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-nominated candidate Syed Awais Qadir Shah has been elected as the Speaker of the Sindh Assembly (SA) by 111 votes.

Speaker and Deputy Speaker are being elected in the Sindh Assembly today. After voting for the post of Speaker, the counting has been completed.

The session was held under the chairmanship of Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, in which nine independent candidates supported by PTI and the only newly elected member of the Assembly of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) took the oath, after which secret polling started, the PTI announced a boycott of this election.

Agha Siraj Durrani said that all the members have cast their votes, a total of 147 votes have been cast, and their counting has been completed, in which Shah secured a massive victory.

On the other hand, Sofia Saeed Shah, the nominee of MQM Pakistan for the post of Speaker, garnered 36 votes.

After the announcement of the results, Awais Shah took his oath of office, and former Speaker Sindh Durrani congratulated him.

Meanwhile, the process of selecting the Deputy Speaker has started in the assembly session under the chairmanship of the newly elected Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Awais Shah.
