RAWALPINDI:
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has decided to place water containers at public parks and other places to provide drinking water for birds in the scorching heat.
The initiative aims to make water accessible for birds and other animals so they may quench their thirst and cool off during the extreme heat.
Water containers have been specially arranged at all public parks and flyovers of Rawalpindi city to protect the birds from severe weather effects. According to statistics, birds often die due to extremely hot weather conditions and the non-availability of water.
In big cities, most birds roost in parks and under flyovers. In the intense heat and dry weather, the birds wander in search of water. Many of the winged creatures come to pass out due to lack of water. Sometimes the non-availability of water even proves fatal for them.
Providing water to the thirsty, be it human or animal, is considered a great virtue and charity. Since it is understood that the lack of water in urban areas can prove lethal to animals, especially in the extreme heat of the summers, the initiative to place water containers in parks and green belts is a welcome move. The availability of water will also help protect the birds from the ongoing heatwave.
