Petrol price in Pakistan increased by Rs9.66 to Rs289.41
ISLAMABAD: The government on Sunday, announced a hike in the price of petrol by Rs9.66 per litre, but concurrently reduced the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.32 per litre
Following this update, the price of petrol surged from Rs279.75 to Rs289.41 per litre, while the rate for high-speed diesel (HSD) dropped to Rs282.24 from Rs278.92.
Products | Existing price | New price | Increase/Decrease |
MS (Petrol) | 279.75 | 289.41 | +9.66 |
High Speed Diesel (HSD) | 285.56 | 282.24 | -3.32 |
The Finance Ministry, in a statement, attributed these adjustments to the corresponding fluctuations in petrol and HSD prices in the global market. It reiterated the government’s policy of reflecting international market price changes in the domestic market. These revised prices for petroleum products will take effect from April 1, 2024 (today).
Concurrently, the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil were decreased by Rs2.27 and Rs0.38 per litre, respectively, now standing at Rs186.39 and Rs167.80.
Kerosene oil is primarily utilized by unscrupulous actors for adulteration with petrol, and to some extent, for illumination and heating in remote areas. Light diesel oil finds application in flour mills and certain power plants.
This decision aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s announcement on March 15, where he raised the diesel price by Rs1.77 per litre while maintaining the petrol price unchanged.
