In a significant development, Lahore’s Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Khalid Arshad has sent nine suspects to jail on judicial remand in the case involving prominent Pakistani scriptwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar. During the court proceedings, the investigating officer confirmed that no additional physical remand was necessary.
The case dates back to July 15, 2024, when Qamar was allegedly abducted and robbed in Lahore. He reported the crime to the police on July 21 after being released following a ransom payment. Qamar had been invited to Amna Arooj’s home under the guise of discussing a drama project but claims he was abducted by armed men.
Amna Arooj’s lawyer contends that Qamar’s manager first reached out to Amna for professional reasons, which later turned personal. Qamar is accused of making inappropriate demands and threatening to release compromising photos if she refused. The situation escalated when Hasan Shah, alleged to be the mastermind, reportedly kidnapped both Qamar and Arooj.
Amna Arooj has since accused the police of torturing her and forcing her to falsely claim the incident was a honey trap. The case is ongoing, with new developments anticipated.
