Matric 2026 Exams in Punjab to be delayed from March 1 amid Ramadan? – Pakistan Observer

LAHORE – Annual exam season is keeping Matric students busy while candidates are anxious due to concurrent dates of Matric and holy month of Ramadan.

Amid wide concerns among hundreds of thousands, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore is reportedly considering to delay start of annual matric exams due to Ramadan 2026.

Instead of starting on March 1, Matric exams may now start after Eid-ul-Fitr, on March 27. Lahore Board submitted formal request to educational authorities, with final decision pending approval from the Punjab Boards Committee of Chairpersons.

The move sparked controversy among students. Many argue that exams should stick to original March 1 schedule, suggesting only one-week Eid break, pointing out that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) begins March 23, which could wreak havoc on exam timetables.

Punjab is also gearing up for return of 8th-grade board exams after a four-year pause. Reports confirm that the Punjab Examination Commission (PECA) and Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat have finalized the schedule, aiming for a province-wide, unified exam pattern.

Students are bracing for what could be a historic showdown over exam dates, with tension building as the holiday season approaches.
