LAHORE – Dera Ghazi Khan sizzled at 49°C as heatwaves continued to prevail across Punjab.
The temperature reached 45°C in Lahore, making Monday the hottest day of this summer.
Heatwaves will continue to persist till June 12 with up to 07°C above normal temperatures in the upper and central districts and up to 06°C in the southern districts.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. High pressure in the upper atmosphere prevails over the country, which will continue to persist during the next four days. A shallow westerly wave also prevails over Kashmir and the adjoining hilly areas.
Under these weather conditions, heatwaves will likely persist in Lahore and most districts of Punjab on Tuesday and the next 2-3 days. Gusty winds are expected during the afternoon.
Day temperatures will likely remain between 05°C and 07°C above normal levels in central & upper Punjab, while between 04°C and 06°C above normal levels in southern Punjab till June 12.
Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 44°C and 46°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, heatwaves prevailed in Lahore and most districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
Dera Ghazi Khan remained the hottest place in Punjab, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 49°C. The maximum temperature in Bhakkar and Sargodha was recorded at 48°C, and in Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Jhang, Layyah, Kasur, Kot Addu, Mandi Bahauddin and Jhelum at 47°C.
In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 45°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 21 per cent.
