Kylian Mbappe, the French striker, has inked a contract with Real Madrid that extends until 2029, as reported by the Spanish daily, Marca, on Monday.
At the conclusion of the season, Mbappe will depart from Paris Saint-Germain, a Ligue 1 club.
Just last week, Mbappe notified Nasser Al Khelaifi, the president of PSG, of his intention to leave the club as a free agent once the season ends.
According to esteemed journalist Fabrizio Romano, the specifics of the departure are still being finalized. In the coming months, PSG and Mbappe will jointly discuss the latter’s exit.
Real Madrid has had its sights set on Mbappe for several years, but a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu has yet to come to fruition.
However, recent reports from various news sources suggest that Mbappe is nearing a resolution to the transfer saga by choosing to join Los Blancos on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
In the meantime, Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, recently hinted that there’s more than a 50% likelihood of Mbappe joining Real Madrid this summer.
Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco in 2017, initially on loan, before signing a contract extension in 2021.
Before his departure from PSG, Mbappe aims to add a league and Champions League double to his list of achievements under manager Luis Enrique.
The 25-year-old has had another outstanding season with PSG, scoring 32 goals and providing seven assists in 31 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign.
In Ligue 1 alone, Mbappe has scored 21 goals and provided four assists in 20 games this season, in addition to scoring four goals in seven Champions League appearances.
