K-Electric (KE) organized an anti-power theft drive in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi, on January 31, alongside a facilitation camp aimed at improving customer engagement and service accessibility. In collaboration with law enforcement agencies, KE successfully removed over 1,000 illegal connections (kundas), weighing around 1,700 kg, from its infrastructure.
These illegal connections were responsible for an estimated annual theft of 6.5 million units of electricity. Since January 2025, KE has been conducting facilitation camps across Karachi, including areas like Garden, Bahadurabad, New Karachi, Shah Faisal, Surjani, and Malir, to improve access to electricity-related services and encourage timely bill payments.
A KE spokesperson emphasized that these camps not only support revenue recovery but also enable KE to optimize its power supply. “Timely bill payments are crucial in ensuring uninterrupted power supply and reducing load-shedding,” the spokesperson said. Currently, 70% of KE’s network is exempt from load-shedding, and even high-loss areas experience no more than 10 hours of outages. Since FY 2024-25, KE has removed over 143,000 illegal connections, totaling 171,000 kg in weight. These illegal connections pose serious safety risks and compromise the integrity of KE’s power infrastructure. KE is committed to reducing electricity theft and creating safer communities.
It urges customers, community leaders, and local representatives to discourage power theft and ensure timely bill payments to maintain a reliable power supply. Notably, KE remains the only utility in Pakistan organizing such facilitation camps to benefit its customers.
