Kasi In Umrani Out As IG Prisons Balochistan

Syed Ali Shah:

QUETTA: In a recent development, the Balochistan Service Tribunal has taken a decisive step by suspending the notification regarding the appointment of the Inspector General (IG) of Prisons. The tribunal’s chairman, Mr. Naseebullah Tareen, issued this order in response to an application filed by Shuja Kasi, the incumbent IG of prisons in Balochistan.

The backdrop to this decision lies in the government’s appointment of Pervez Umrani as the new IG of prisons, which took effect on July 1st. However, questions arose about the appointment process, leading to legal scrutiny. The court’s suspension of the notification indicates that the matter is far from settled.

The hearing on this contentious issue has been adjourned until August 20th, allowing time for further examination and deliberation. As the controversy unfolds, the spotlight remains on the critical role of the IG of Prisons in ensuring justice, security, and effective management within the correctional system.
