KARACHI – Pakistan’s largest city Karachi has seen a surge in young women using online cab services for convenience and safety. But along with growing usage, reports of sexual harassment have also surfaced. The latest case involves female passenger who alleges that a driver from a famous ride-hailing company behaved indecently during a trip.
The passenger, a female student, reportedly moved the consumer court seeking Rs1 crore in damages from popular online ride-hailing company, alleging that one of its drivers behaved in indecent and criminal manner during a trip.
According to the complaint, the student booked ride through the company’s mobile app in August 2025. During the journey, she claims the driver asked her to record videos and then began removing his trousers inside the moving vehicle. Fearing for her life, she was forced to jump out of the car to protect herself.
The passenger immediately reported the incident to the company’s customer support and also filed a formal complaint at the New Town police station. The victim lamented inaction from the company, saying she failed to take any remedial action or respond adequately to her complaint.
She also argued that there were serious lapses in the company’s safety protocols, the petitioner argued that insufficient driver verification and training procedures directly contributed to this terrifying ordeal.
The consumer court has now issued a notice to the ride-hailing company, directing it to provide a formal response to the allegations. The case has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stricter safety measures for women using ride-hailing services in Karachi.
