KARACHI – The exhumation of young Karachi businessman and trader Mir Raza, scheduled for Friday, has been postponed after authorities constituted a third medical board to oversee the procedure.
A fresh notification for the medical board has also been issued.
According to Mir Raza’s family lawyer, Jibran Nasir, the new board has been formed by merging members of the first and second medical boards.
Speaking to the media, Nasir said the family did not accept the third notification either. He said Mir Raza’s parents had already recorded their statements before the investigating officer in connection with the case.
Nasir said the magistrate had also been informed that the newly constituted medical board was not acceptable to the family. He alleged that the changes had caused further delays in the exhumation process.
He claimed that those responsible for the alleged irregularities had not completely succeeded but had managed to delay the procedure. He added that Mir Raza’s father was seeking answers directly from the Sindh chief minister.
Nasir also alleged that only selective footage of the incident was being shown. Referring to developments in the investigation, he said that a bullet casing was recovered after the family approached the court and suggested that further evidence could potentially emerge later.
Meanwhile, several members of the previous medical board reached the cemetery because they were reportedly unaware of the latest notification and the formation of the new board.
However, two members of the newly constituted medical board had not reached the cemetery, preventing the exhumation proceedings from taking place.
The preparations for the exhumation had reportedly been completed, but the procedure was ultimately deferred.
The exhumation is linked to the investigation into Mir Raza’s death. The latest development has raised further questions over the medical board arrangements and the delay in carrying out the court-related procedure.
