ISLAMABAD – Justice Tariq Jahangiri on Wednesday challenged the proceedings of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in his degree controversy case by filing an appeal in the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC).
Justice Jahangiri approached the Federal Constitutional Court against the two-member bench ruling of the Islamabad High Court dated December 9, arguing that the petition filed against him in the Islamabad High Court is not maintainable.
In his petition, he submitted that the writ petition filed against him in the Islamabad High Court be dismissed.
To handle the case, Justice Jahangiri formed a legal team comprising three senior lawyers. Akram Sheikh and Barrister Salahuddin would represent him in the Islamabad High Court while Aziz Bhandari would follow the case in the Federal Constitutional Court.
Justice Jahangiri also said that Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar recuse himself from the bench and called for the formation of a full court for hearing the degree case, excluding the Chief Justice and other transferred judges.
Additionally, he sought time to submit his response and requested that the hearing be adjourned until the verdict in a related case at the Sindh High Court is delivered.
Earlier, during a hearing in the Islamabad High Court, Justice Jahangiri had expressed no confidence in the bench in which Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar was present, raising objections over his participation.
