KARACHI: Pakistan’s young wicketkeeper-batter Haseebullah Khan has been sidelined from the upcoming Test series against the West Indies after sustaining a hand injury.
The 21-year-old suffered a blow to his hand that required stitches, rendering him unavailable for the two-Test series. Haseebullah was part of Pakistan’s 15-member squad as the second wicketkeeper alongside Mohammad Rizwan during the recent tour of South Africa.
Having featured in one ODI and three T20Is for Pakistan, the left-handed batter made his T20I debut on January 21, 2024, in Christchurch under the leadership of Shaheen Shah Afridi. His ODI debut followed on November 24, 2024, in Blantyre, captained by Mohammad Rizwan. While he was part of Pakistan’s white-ball squads for Australia and Zimbabwe tours, Haseebullah was included in the Test squad for the South Africa series but remained uncapped in the format.
The West Indies cricket team, marking their return to Pakistan for a Test series after 18 years, arrived on Monday. Ahead of the series, they will play a three-day practice match against the Pakistan Shaheens starting January 10.
In head-to-head Test encounters, Pakistan leads with 21 wins out of 54 matches, while the West Indies have secured 18 victories, with 15 matches ending in draws. Their last series in 2021 in the Caribbean ended in a 1-1 draw.
