Government abolishes electricity duty from power bills

The federal government has made an important decision to provide relief to electricity consumers.

Federal Minister for Power Division, Awais Leghari, announced that from July 1, 2025, the electricity duty will be removed from electricity bills.

The purpose of this decision is to reduce the burden of high electricity rates on the public and make the bills more transparent and easier to understand.

According to Awais Leghari, the current high electricity rates have already become a financial burden for people, and the government wants to ensure that consumers pay only the actual cost of electricity.

The federal minister emphasized that this decision has been taken to lower electricity rates and that provincial governments have been asked to cooperate in this effort.

Awais Leghari has written letters to all provincial chief ministers, requesting them to develop alternative revenue collection systems in their provinces.

He further said that the government is taking steps to remove unnecessary charges from electricity bills so that people are billed only for essential services.
