Google Gemini glitch triggers complaints from users worldwide

LONDON: Users of Google’s AI chatbot Gemini reported widespread service disruptions on Wednesday, with many encountering error messages and difficulties accessing the platform.

According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, reports of problems surged at approximately 6:11 a.m. ET in the United States and 11:11 a.m. GMT in the United Kingdom. At one point, more than 480 users in the US and 440 users in the UK had reported issues.

Users said they were receiving “error 1706” and “error 1099” messages while attempting to use the chatbot, with some reporting that the service failed to load properly.

Despite the complaints, Google had not officially confirmed an outage. Gemini’s status page continued to indicate that all systems were operational.

The disruption did not appear to escalate into a full global outage, although user reports of service issues persisted throughout the day.

Gemini is Google’s flagship artificial intelligence chatbot and is integrated into several of the company’s consumer and productivity products. Any interruption in service can affect users who rely on the platform for work, research, and everyday tasks.
