LAHORE – Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has issued an emergency alert for citizens in Lahore due to the increasing smog and appealed for implementation of safety measures.
She has advised citizens to wear masks while going outdoors, adding that children, elderly citizens, and individuals with heart and respiratory conditions should avoid going outdoors.
She said that the smog level in Lahore is increasing as strong winds are bringing pollution from Indian cities such as Delhi, Amritsar, and Chandigarh.
Marriyum Aurangzeb warned that stern action will be taken against those who burn crop residues and smoke emitting vehicles will be impounded.
Citizens can report environmental violations by calling ‘1373’ or through the ‘Green App.’
The alert comes as the capital city of Punjab was again declared the most polluted city in the world, as per live cities rankings issued by IQAir.
The online portals shows that the air quality of the city has dropped to hazardous level as it recorded 347 US AQI.
