QUETTA: As Muharram approaches, Commissioner Hamza Shafaqat has announced extensive security measures to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the 9th and 10th of Muharram processions.

Robust Deployment and Aerial Surveillance

A contingent of 5,000 personnel from Hollis, FC, and Levies will be deployed to safeguard the Ashura processions. Additionally, the Pakistan Army will remain on standby, with aerial surveillance providing an extra layer of security to monitor the events from above.

Proactive Measures Against Threats

Commissioner Shafaqat highlighted the presence of security threats during Muharram, particularly from ISIS and other terrorist organizations aiming to disrupt the processions. In response, security protocols have been strengthened, and multiple bridges have been installed on the internal and external routes of the city to manage the movement and safety of the participants effectively.

Ongoing Security Operations

In a preemptive move, security forces have arrested 30 suspects, with investigations currently underway to thwart any potential threats. This proactive approach aims to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents during the sacred observance of Muharram.

Community and Environmental Efforts

Alongside security measures, Commissioner Shafaqat has overseen significant efforts to ensure cleanliness in the city. Cleaning arrangements have been meticulously planned for the Ashura procession routes, with 30 tons of garbage already collected from the city in preparation for the events.
