A tragic road accident near Jamali Bridge on the Super Highway claimed the lives of a college professor and his wife when a speeding dumper truck collided with their motorcycle.
The victims, identified as 54-year-old Tariq Salahuddin and 55-year-old Nadia Tariq, died on the spot. Their bodies were transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by Chipa Ambulance.
Tariq Salahuddin was a Physics professor at Abdullah Government College for Women and a resident of Scheme 33.
According to the college principal, Tasneem Fatima, the professor had recently purchased a new home in Azizabad and was in the process of moving. The couple was on route to Azizabad on their motorcycle after sending household items ahead via a Suzuki pickup.
The accident occurred when the dumper struck their motorcycle at a U-turn near Jamali Bridge. The driver of the dumper fled the scene immediately after the incident. Police have since seized the dumper and launched a search for the driver.
The couple is survived by two sons and a daughter. News of Professor Tariq’s tragic death prompted his colleagues to rush to the hospital to pay their respects.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjhar has taken notice of the incident, ordering separate reports from the district and traffic SSPs. He directed law enforcement agencies to ensure impartial investigations and take strict action against the dumper driver as per the law. He also emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and ensuring justice for the bereaved family.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the driver and provide closure to the grieving family.
