Chief Justice SHC asserts judicial independence, denies pressure claims – Pakistan Observer

Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, firmly stated on Saturday that he neither contacted nor faced any pressure regarding judicial decisions. Responding to a journalist’s query, Chief Justice Abbasi emphasized the autonomy of the judiciary, highlighting that its freedom is evident in its rulings. “A judge cannot be dishonest or corrupt,” he asserted. Addressing concerns about possible pressure in specific cases, Justice Abbasi clarified, “I didn’t face any attempt to influence me in any specific case. Any appearance of such an effort was immediately addressed and later identified as a misunderstanding.”

He further explained that the transfer of an election tribunal judge was a standard procedure. Justice Abbasi also noted that the courts often experience increased pressure when other institutions fail to perform their duties diligently.
