Dr Mustafa Kamal
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched Pakistan’s first provincial Counter Narcotics Force (CNF), a specialized force dedicated to eliminating the growing menace of drugs across the province. The CNF is equipped with modern technology and trained personnel, working tirelessly to eradicate drug trafficking and abuse.
Anti-Narcotics Act 2025
The Punjab government has promulgated the Punjab Control of Narcotic Substances Act 2025, providing a robust legal framework to tackle drug-related crimes. This act grants the CNF powers equivalent to the police, including authority to investigate, arrest, and conduct raids without a warrant.
Comprehensive Plan
A comprehensive plan has been chalked out to control drugs, including regular meetings with senior police officers, commissioners, and district officials to monitor progress. The plan aims to disrupt drug trafficking networks and safeguard communities from narcotics.
Phased Approach
The CNF is working in two phases, with Phase 1 focusing on divisional level operations and Phase 2 expanding to district level. This approach ensures a systematic and thorough crackdown on drug-related activities.
Educated Youth at Risk
Drug abuse is affecting individuals, families, and societies, with educated youth being particularly vulnerable. The CNF is working to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.
Previous Regime’s Failure
The previous regime’s failure to address the issue has led to widespread drug abuse. The CNF aims to rectify this situation and create a safer environment for the youth.
Successful Operations
The CNF has conducted over 90 successful operations, seizing 13 tons of narcotics worth Rs. 115 million and arresting several smugglers.
Awareness Campaigns
The CNF is working with educational institutions to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.
