KARACHI: The Asia Cup scheduled for this year is unlikely to take place due to India’s refusal to participate, reportedly due to the ongoing tension between Pakistan and India.
According to Indian media, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to withdraw from both the Men’s Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup.
The decision casts serious doubt over the future of this year’s tournament, with sources indicating that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) may be forced to cancel the event altogether if a resolution is not reached soon.
In this regard, the BCCI official said that the President of the Asian Cricket Council is Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi while the Indian team cannot play in a tournament headed by Pakistan.
According to a BCCI official, the Asian Cricket Council has been verbally informed about the decision to withdraw from the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup, the remaining ACC schedule events have also been held, board is in constant contact with the government in this regard.
