The 54th Armed Forces Day of Bangladesh was commemorated at a formal and dignified reception held in Islamabad in an atmosphere of renewed warmth and friendship between Bangladesh and Pakistan. The event brought together senior civil and military officials, members of the diplomatic community, defence and service attachés, and invited guests from various walks of life.
The reception held on a note of goodwill and camaraderie, participants reaffirming the spirit of friendship through slogans of “Long live Bangladesh-Pakistan friendship” and “Bangladesh-Pakistan Dosti Zindabad.”
Welcoming the guests, Bangladesh’s High Commissioner Iqbal Hussain Khan underscored the significance of Armed Forces Day and paid glowing tribute to the Bangladesh Armed Forces for their professionalism, discipline and unwavering dedication to national service. Ambassadors from different countries, along with senior Pakistani civil and military officers, attended the ceremony, reflecting the importance of the occasion.
The high commissioner highlighted the Bangladesh Armed Forces’ strong commitment to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Beyond their primary defence role, he said, the armed forces played a vital part in humanitarian assistance, disaster response, infrastructure development and wider nation-building efforts, earning respect and trust from the people of Bangladesh.
Special reference was made to Bangladesh’s significant contribution to the United Nations peacekeeping missions across the globe.
Bangladesh remains one of the largest contributors to the UN peacekeeping operations, with its personnel widely acknowledged for promoting global peace, stability and humanitarian values in conflict-affected regions.
The envoy’s address also underlined the transformation of the Bangladesh Armed Forces into a modern, disciplined and highly professional institution, aligned with the aspirations and expectations of the Bangladeshi nation.
