Azad Khan appointed new chief of Karachi police – Pakistan Observer

KARACHI – The Sindh Government has appointed Additional IG of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Azad Khan, as the new chief of Karachi Police.

A notification regarding the appointment was officially issued by the government.

In addition to Khan’s promotion, several other significant changes were made within the police department. The notification also revealed the following appointments and reassignment of duties for other senior police officials:

Additional IG Zulfiqar Ali Lark was appointed as the Additional IG of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Sindh.

Sharjeel Kharal has been assigned as the Additional IG of the Special Branch.

Captain (retd) Parvaiz Ahmed Chandio will now serve as the DIG of Establishment.

Captain (retd) Faisal Abdullah Chachar has been designated as the DIG for the Mirpur Khas Range.

Moreover, the Sindh government has also issued additional charge assignments to two officers:

DIG Larkana, Nasir Aftab, will take on the additional responsibility of DIG for the Sukkur Range.

Additional IG of Training in Sindh, Iqbal Dara, has been given the additional charge of Additional IG Operations in Sindh.

A day earlier, Javed Akhtar Odho formally assumed change as the new Sindh Inspector General of Police after incumbent IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon relinquished charge.

A day earlier, Odha was named the new IGP for Sindh, following the retirement of Ghulam Nabi Memon.

Odho, a Grade-21 officer from the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), confirmed receiving the official notification of his new role.

Odho began his career in Sindh Police on July 11, 1998, as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Larkana.

Over the years, he has held key positions in multiple districts, including Ghotki, Badin, Dadu, and Jamshoro, before rising through the ranks to serve in various critical roles. These included SP Special Branch, as well as leadership roles in Thatta, Matiari, and Hyderabad.

His career also includes stints as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of West Karachi, the Special Branch in Sukkur, Rapid Response Force (RRF), Larkana, Karachi Administration, and Finance. He served in Balochistan in 2019 and held senior positions like Additional IG for Research and Development, Special Branch, and Investigation for Sindh.
