T20 World Cup 2024: What will pitch be like for Pakistan vs. India clash?

Conversations about the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match between Pakistan and India are already underway, despite the match being scheduled for June 9th in New York.

The primary concern about this high-profile match is the condition of the pitch, as the New York stadium, which has been temporarily set up, is hosting matches of this magnitude for the first time.

Reports suggest that the pitch at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, which has been specially prepared for the World Cup, will be similar to that of Adelaide.

Brett Jones, the CEO of T20 World Cup, acknowledged that building a temporary stadium presented numerous challenges, including record levels of rainfall and cold temperatures during construction.

Jones revealed that the concept for a temporary stadium was inspired by Olympic Games golf courses and Formula One. The same infrastructure used in these events was employed here, with the assistance of professionals who have been working with this type of infrastructure for two to three decades.

Jones further explained that drop-in technology was utilized for the pitch, with the assistance of Adelaide’s expert curator, Damian Hoff. The drop-in pitches were prepared in Florida’s warm climate and will be transported to New York closer to the event. He mentioned that these pitches will be akin to those in Adelaide and Melbourne.

Lastly, he stated that these pitches will play similarly to those in Adelaide and Melbourne, which Damian has been preparing. Adelaide pitches have a commendable track record, and these are expected to perform similarly.

It’s worth noting that the tournament will kick off on June 2, with co-hosts USA facing off against neighboring Canada, while fellow hosts the West Indies will play Papua New Guinea in Guyana on the second day of group play.
