While many prominent developers have shown little interest in making their apps available on Vision Pro, the popular media player VLC is reportedly planning to release a version compatible with visionOS. Jean-Baptiste Kempf, President of VideoLAN, announced VLC’s upcoming availability on Vision Pro, noting the lack of interest among major iOS developers.

Despite this, VLC recently celebrated five billion downloads and has been working on a visionOS-supported version.

Kempf confirmed the existence of a VLC version for Vision Pro but expressed uncertainty about active development due to the device’s limited user base.

As a result, it may take some time before the VLC media player application becomes accessible or downloadable from the Apple App Store.

Is there a VLC for Meta Quest?

The company also considered developing a VLC app for Meta’s Quest headsets; however, it ultimately opted against it, citing the abundance of “many good players” already available for the platform.

For those unfamiliar, VLC is a free and open-source media player that is compatible with platforms such as iOS, macOS, and tvOS.

It supports a wide range of popular audio and video codecs and is often used to play media files that other players, such as Apple’s QuickTime, cannot handle.
