ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan once again secured his position as the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) unopposed on Thursday, marking his second term in the party’s leadership after his rival panel withdrew from the race.
In a statement issued late Thursday, PTI announced, “At the conclusion of the withdrawal phase of candidates/panels, there is only one candidate/panel remaining.”
Omar Ayub Khan has been elected unopposed as the central general secretary of the party, according to today’s declaration by PTI.
The positions of the party’s presidents for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh were also filled unopposed by Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ali Amin Gandapur, and Haleem Adil Sheikh, respectively, as no opposing candidates emerged against them.
For the Balochistan president’s post, the former ruling party will conduct an intra-party poll in Quetta.
“The final result of the election will, however, be declared by the Federal Election Commissioner on March 3, 2024, at the conclusion of the election process,” stated the release.
The intra-party polls were reinstated following the Supreme Court’s decision last month to uphold the Election Commission of Pakistan’s ruling on the party’s internal elections, resulting in PTI losing its trademark electoral bat symbol.
